About Sweetgrass NY
Sweetgrass NY is a garden company located on the North Shore of Long Island.
Founded by Emily Berg who completed her Master's Degree in Ecological Design from the Conway School of Landscape Design in 2014, her Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies from Ithaca College in 2010, and her Certificate in Herbal Medicine from the Heartstone School of Earth Essentials in 2012, this business was born of deep passion and reverence for the Earth. It started as a moonlight endeavor while Emily worked her way through the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, NYC Department of Environmental Protection, and various other jobs that span the fields of sustainability, restoration ecology, horticulture, design, and farming over the last 15 years. The company is named from inspiration by Robin Wall Kimmerer's book, Braiding Sweetgrass - a touchstone text on the intersection of ecology and spirituality. Truly, this is our passion and we hope to work with you and help bring the joy of plants into your life!
Our Process
We listen to the needs of our clients and design custom solutions that meet their unique requirements. All of our designs are also informed by an understanding of the existing site conditions and place-based analysis that honors the natural environment and history of a site.
